Established in 1997, at Muar, Johor, behind the founder’s house, the first factory was set up as Onitek Fiberglass Enterprise, while the company’s marketing arm was known as Articles Plus Enterprise. With only five workers, Onitek initially sold aluminum door frames and manufactured fiberglass panels, but a year later, when it moved to Jalan Haji Taib, Muar Johor, a design department was added, as well as two more employees.
In April 2002, the office and factory moved again, this time to Jalan Ismail, Muar Johor. With the addition of foreign labourers, the workforce had increased to 17. In the same year, a new branch for Onitek marketing was established in Kuala Lumpur.
By 2003, the company had started development of its own aluminum frame and bearing roller design molds. As a result, within seven years of inception, Onitek had already published its first catalogue.
Onitek added another new location at Kawasan Perindustrian Tangkak, Johor in 2007 where its Research and Development department was established.
Then in 2009, as it continued to develop Aluminum Stainless Steel Bearing Rollers, greater emphasis was placed on promoting its own brand and products which include the Ofiano Panel, under the Omix, Ofiano, Eplus and Oxitro brands. A third branch in Selangor was also opened that same year.
By 2011, Onitek had introduced several impressive product innovations that included the do-it-yourself (D.I.Y.) Bi-Fold Door Q-Pro which simplifies changing the panel, and upgrading to a five wheel bearing roller. The Q-Pro shower was also designed for D.I.Y. changing of the panel.
Further innovations in 2012 led to the launch of the Bi-Fold Door N-Pro 2-in-1 advanced handle; the Bi-Fold Door E-Pro; the Shower N-Pro; and the Aluminum Door Jamb. The biggest of Onitek’s achievements that year, however, was its successful expansion into Thailand.
Onitek introduced additional product lines in 2013, including the Alu-Box (Kitchen Cabinet). It also successfully expanded into Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and Philippines.
The company’s 2014 product innovations, which include the Bi-Fold Door and i Bi-Fold are strong indicators of Onitek’s ongoing strength and success as a company that has now grown to employ approximately 180 people. The i Bi-Fold series has an upper roller that ensures smooth operation when the door is open and closed, and the outer frame features an improved modern design. The four models in the line include i Bi-Fold Q-Pro; i Bi-Fold N-Pro; i Bi-Fold N-ProC; and i Bi-Fold E-ProA.
As product innovation and development evolve, Onitek continues to build capacity and increase productivity with state-of-the-art equipment. The construction of a new factory adjacent to the existing facility is expected to help meet the growing demand for Onitek products, and in turn, further enhance customer satisfaction. The added capacity will also enable the company to continue its expansion into overseas markets in Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, and Australia.
